About the Library

The Shree S.K. Patel College of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (SKPCER) Library has been serving as the academic and intellectual hub of the institution since its establishment in 1996. Located on the First Floor of the Main Building at Ganpat University, Kherva, Mehsana, the library supports the educational and research needs of students, faculty, and research scholars in the field of pharmacy.

From its inception, the library has prioritized building a strong and diverse collection of textbooks, reference books, and specialized pharmacy resources. Over the decades, it has grown into a well-equipped, fully automated library that provides both physical and digital access to knowledge. The quality of services and resources offered at SKPCER Library is at par with leading institutional libraries across Ganpat University campus.

Today, the library holds over 15,500 volumes of books spanning core pharmacy disciplines, and offers access to 2,025 e-journals through the INFLIBNET K-Hub platform. It continues to grow with a dedicated emphasis on digital resources, research support, and user-centric services.

Library Services

SKPCER Library offers a comprehensive range of services to support learning, research, and academic excellence. All registered members of the institution are entitled to access these services throughout the academic year.

Circulation Service

Books are issued and returned at the circulation counter upon presentation of the Institute Identity Card. Only registered members may borrow books, and borrowing limits and loan periods are defined by membership category.

Reference Service

Library staff provide assistance in locating and using reference materials including encyclopaedias, handbooks, pharmacopoeias, dictionaries, and subject-specific databases. Reference books are available for in-library use only.

Current Awareness Service

Users are regularly informed about new additions to the library collection, including recently acquired books, journals, and digital resources relevant to pharmacy and allied sciences.

New Arrivals Display

Newly acquired books and journals are displayed prominently at the New Arrivals section so that library users can stay updated with the latest resources added to the collection.

E-mail Alert Service

Registered users receive timely e-mail notifications about new library acquisitions, upcoming library events, overdue reminders, and important announcements related to library resources and services.

Plagiarism Check Service

The library supports research integrity by providing access to plagiarism detection tools. Students, research scholars, and faculty can utilize this service for checking their research documents before submission.

Overdue Reminder Service

Automated reminders are sent to users with books due for return, helping maintain an efficient circulation system and ensuring timely availability of resources for all members.

Resource Sharing Service

Through institutional memberships in networks such as DELNET, the library facilitates inter-library resource sharing, enabling users to access documents and materials not immediately available in the local collection.

Web OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue)

Users can search the library catalogue online through the Web OPAC, accessible from any device on the campus network. The OPAC is powered by SOUL 3.0 and can also be accessed by scanning the QR Code available at the library entrance.

Library Automation – SOUL 3.0

The library is fully automated using SOUL 3.0 (Software for University Libraries), developed by INFLIBNET Centre. This system manages all library operations including cataloguing, circulation, acquisition, and serial management. Users can search the entire library catalogue through the Web OPAC accessible on campus and remotely.

Reading Room

The library provides a dedicated, well-lit reading room with seating capacity for 100 users at a time. Reserve textbooks are available for in-library use within the reading room. Users are expected to maintain silence and decorum in this space.

ICT Infrastructure

Eight computer systems are available exclusively for library use, allowing users to access the Web OPAC, browse e-resources, and conduct online research. The entire library is covered with Wi-Fi and supported by Ethernet connectivity for uninterrupted access to digital resources.

Print and Photocopy Services

Photocopying and printing facilities are available within the library for educational purposes. Users may take prints or copies of relevant library materials in accordance with copyright guidelines.

Library Membership

Membership of SKPCER Library is automatically granted to all bonafide members of the institution, including undergraduate students, postgraduate students, research scholars, faculty members, and non-teaching staff. The membership remains valid for the duration of the member's association with the institute.

Book Borrowing Entitlements

Registered members may borrow books from the library by presenting their Institute Identity Card at the circulation counter. The number of books and the loan period vary by membership category, as detailed below.

Book Renewal

Members may renew borrowed books if the same title is not in demand by other users. Renewal is permitted multiple times for low-demand titles, and a single renewal is allowed for high-demand books with limited copies. Renewal can be done through the Web OPAC or at the circulation counter with the help of library staff.

Book Recommendation

Members are encouraged to recommend books and journals for library acquisition. Recommendation forms for books and journals/magazines are available for download from the library.

No Dues / Clearance Certificate

A No Dues or Clearance Certificate will be issued to a member only after all borrowed books are returned and all outstanding library dues are cleared. This certificate is required at the time of examination form submission, convocation, or leaving the institution.

Membership Suspension or Termination

Library membership may be suspended or permanently terminated, and disciplinary action may be initiated, in the following cases:

  • Mutilating, defacing, cutting pages from, or damaging library materials
  • Theft or unauthorized removal of library property
  • Misuse of library facilities or digital resources
  • Repeated or serious violation of library rules

Library Rules and Regulations

All users of SKPCER Library are expected to follow the rules listed below to maintain an orderly, respectful, and productive environment for everyone.

  1. All students and staff must scan the barcode on their Identity Card at the library entrance and exit PC for attendance registration.
  2. The Institute Identity Card must be carried at all times for accessing any library facility or service.
  3. Books and any other materials taken out of the library must be shown to the library staff at the entrance counter.
  4. In the event of a lost book, the user must replace it with the same title (same or newer edition, same publisher) or pay double the cost of the book.
  5. Students who fail to return borrowed books within the stipulated period will not be permitted to borrow new books for an equal number of days beyond the overdue period.
  6. All library materials and property must be handled with the utmost care. Marking, underlining, tearing, or any form of damage to library materials is strictly prohibited.
  7. Strict silence must be maintained in the library and reading room at all times. The use of mobile phones (including ringtones, calls, or media), music players, or any audio devices is not permitted.
  8. Smoking, consumption of food, and beverages are strictly prohibited within the library premises.
  9. Access to e-resources is permitted for educational and research purposes only. Commercial use of any licensed digital content is strictly prohibited.
  10. The latest issues of journals and magazines are displayed on the display rack. Previous issues are arranged in dedicated drawers and are available for reference.
  11. The library reserves the right to recall any book issued to a user at any time if required. Users must comply promptly with such recall requests.
  12. Users must adhere to all library rules at all times to maintain decorum and respect for fellow users and library staff.

Library Extension Activities

SKPCER Library actively promotes a culture of reading, research, and lifelong learning through a variety of extension and outreach activities. These programmes are designed to enhance library engagement among students and faculty.

Library Orientation Programme

Each academic year, newly admitted students are introduced to the library through a structured orientation session. The programme covers library layout, collection organization, catalogue usage, borrowing procedures, and access to digital resources.

Book Exhibition

The library organizes periodic book exhibitions to showcase new acquisitions and titles of academic relevance. These exhibitions encourage students and faculty to explore new literature and expand their reading horizons.

Book Review

Library users are invited to participate in book review sessions where selected titles are discussed, reviewed, and critiqued. These sessions promote critical thinking and scholarly engagement with literature.

Journal Review

Regular journal review programmes are conducted to familiarize users with important research journals in pharmacy and allied sciences. Participants gain awareness of current research trends and significant publications in their field.

Reading Club

The SKPCER Library Reading Club brings together students and faculty with a shared interest in reading and academic discussion. The club fosters intellectual curiosity and supports voluntary reading beyond the curriculum.
