Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology


The department historically has been lead by legendary personalities like Dr. M. M. Patel, Dr. Avani F Amin, Dr P D Bharadia and Dr J K Patel. Department details

Department has spacious laboratories with adequate equipment for teaching and research. Equipped with sophisticated instruments for development and evaluation of Novel and conventional dosage forms (Approx. cost of instruments: Rs.1,45,00,000/-). Department frequently receives research and other grants from funding agencies like AICTE GUJCOST, DST, ICMR, CSIR, etc (Department has received funding of Rs.91,00,000/-) Department has also successfully handled sponsored research project and consultancy from various pharma companies like Themis Medicare, Acme Pharmaceuticals, Mann Pharmaceuticals, Vikram Themolab, Camper Healthcare, Krigen Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Brillare Science Pvt. Ltd.,Maharshi Pharma Chem, Star Sulphar, Texas laboratories, etc. The research output from department has been acknowledged as publication in journal of repute (More than 220) and presentations in conferences (More than 340) and patents (2 granted, 4 published and 9 filed). Department has organized number of Seminars (16), Workshops (5), Staff development programs (8), etc. The faculty have served as resource persons in different conferences and workshops. The department has good organizational capabilities with computer facilities and is able to plan, prepare and promote programmes for professional pharmacists, community pharmacists and continuing education programs for junior faculty. Interactive computer simulations have been developed as teaching aids. Department organizes Industrial tour and visits at various pharma companies and research centres for practical exposure of various pharmaceutical processes and products.

Laboratory

INDUSTRIAL PHARMACY LAB

This laboratory is equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and machinery required in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical dosage forms like tablets, capsules, ointment, liquid orals, parenteral, novel drug delivery systems, packaging science, etc. Equipment: Horizontal drive multi attachment(Kevlab), Rotary Tablet Press, Liquid washing, filling, sealing machine, Mass Mixture, Colloid mill, Homogenizer, Tablet coating machine, Ampoule sealing machine, Humidity Oven, Photostability chamber, Tray dryer, Distillation Unit, Overhead stirrers, Digital Balance(0.1 mg)

PHARMACEUTICS LAB 1, 2, 3, AND 4

These well-furnished laboratories cater to the practical requirements of the subjects technologies of Drugs and Cosmetics, Biological Pharmaceuticals, Pharmaceutics, Dispensing Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical engineering, and unit operations. Equipment: UV 1700, Dissolution test apparatus (six bowls), Brookfield Viscometer, Digital Balance(0.01 mg), Disintegration test apparatus, Friabilator, Flowmeter, Oven, Hot plate, Hardness tester, Cone blender, Agitator mixture, Ball mill, Leak test apparatus, Magnetic stirrers, etc.

MICROBIOLOGY LAB

This lab is designed as per current FDCA norms for class 10,000 aseptic areas for parenteral. Laminar Air Flow units and aseptic area with provision of HEPA. Equipment: Aseptic area (FDA Guideline), Incubator, Fermentor, BOD Incubator, Laminar Airflow Bench, Zone Reader, Colony counter, Distilled water plant (Millipore), etc.

PG LAB 1

This laboratory is equipped with the state of art sophisticated equipment and machinery required for a research study of the novel and conventional drug delivery systems like liposomes, niosomes, transdermal patches, nanoparticulate and targeted drug delivery systems, parenteral, gastroretentive, modified drug delivery systems, etc. at dissertation during M. Pharm Sem – III & IV. Equipments: Lyophilizer, DSC, HPLC with PDA detector, UV 1800, Digital Balance (0.01 mg), Rota evaporator, etc.

PG LAB 2

This laboratory is used for practical experiments related to reformulations, dosage form development, excipient exploration, etc. during M. Pharm Sem – I & II. Equipment: Dissoo, UV 1800, High-speed homogenizer, Magnetic stirrers, Digital Balance(0.01 mg), Sonicator, pH meter, Microwave oven, Hot air Oven, etc.
